The 12 most important insider tips
Experience from many Sweden-travellers – nobody should miss this.
The most important Spartipp of all: TT-Line works with dynamic pricing. The earlier you book, the cheaper. 4–8 weeks in advance is ideal – there are often Early-Bird prices available, which are 30–40% below last-minute prices.
Especially in the peak season (June–August) and during school holidays the most popular departures are quickly fully booked. Spontaneous travellers almost always pay significantly more. Early bookers also secure the best cabins.
Der Skandinavienkai in Travemünde (Skandinavienkai 1) is the only departure port. Entry to the port area takes a few minutes depending on the queue – during holiday periods it can take longer.
Guidelines for the arrival time before departure:
check-in counter schließen 30 minutes before departure. Those who arrive too late lose their ticket non-refundable (with the SMART tariff).
TT-Line regularly offers discount codes with discounts of up to 35%. These codes are often time-limited and apply to specific booking periods or departure dates. The current code is shown at the top of this page.
How to use the code:Configure your ticket as usual on ttline.com → in the last booking step in the field "discountcode" or "discount code" enter → discount is deducted immediately. The code works best in combination withCabins and off-season crossings.
Night connections (departure from 23:00, arrival early morning) are a real insider tip for smart travellers. You save a hotel night, arrive well-rested and start early in Sweden – perfect for a full day of exploring!
Night crossings are often cheaper than day crossings during peak season. A cabinis required, but turns the trip into a real short break. The inside cabin (from approx. €35) is ideal for night crossings – no lights, perfect darkness for sleeping.
TT-Line has three fare classes. The right choice saves money or protects against expensive surprises when plans change:
The Green ShipsNils Holgersson (2019) and Peter Pan (2021) each have 32 free EV charging stations on the vehicle deck. This is unique on the Baltic Sea! With an EV or electric motorhome you should choose a departure with one of these ships wählen.
Important for EV drivers:Bring your own Type 2 cable. Register the charging station when booking or at check-in at the latest, as spaces are limited. The vehicle deck is locked at night - so connect the cable before boarding so that charging starts automatically.
TT-Line measures the Total length when boarding after– from the front bumper to the rearmost point. This includes bike racks (50-80 cm!), protruding tow bars, unfolded lifting steps and all accessories.
10 centimetres too much can mean a whole price category more expensive and must be rebooked at check-in – often at the full current day price. Better to measure exactly and state honestly when booking!
All TT-Line Ships have a restaurant, a bistro and snack machines. The evening buffet is particularly popular and well stocked.Tip: Go for dinner early (shortly after departure, approx. 1h after leaving) – then it's quietest and the selection is largest.
Own food and non-alcoholic drinks may be brought on board and consumed in the cabin or during the public areas. This saves considerably – especially for families. A small backpack with snacks, water and fruit is always recommended.
WiFi:Free on all TT-Line ships. Speed is limited – sufficient for messaging, not for streaming. Large files, updates and downloads before departure complete.
Seasickness:The Baltic Sea is relatively calm, but can become uncomfortable in storms. If you are susceptible: tablets (e.g. Dramamine/Dimenhydrinate)one hour before departuretake it, not until things get bad. Fresh air on the outside deck often helps more than sitting inside. The lowest decks and the middle of the ships are the most stable.
Arrival at the port of Trelleborg is straightforward. After docking you drive via the exit ramp directly onto the Swedish road. The city Trelleborg itself is nice, but most travelers continue straight on.
First steps after arrival:Right at the exit there is often a tourist office with free Sweden cards. Refueling: Swedish diesel and petrol is sometimes cheaper than in Germany – fill up right away. Money: Credit cards are accepted everywhere, Swedish krona (SEK) are hardly necessary.
For night crossings a cabin is required. But even for day crossings it is worth it: 7–10 hours standing or in a chair is not very appealing. The cabin turns the crossing into a real mini break.

Anyone who books a return trip together often benefits fromcombined discountsand saves additionally. The return trip from Trelleborg to Travemünde has the same departure times and ships as the outbound trip.
If you want to book the return trip in Sweden first: This can be done on ttline.com or directly at the port Trelleborg. In the peak season return trips can also be fully booked - better to book in advance!
