🐕 Taking your dog on the TT-Line ferry to Sweden
Pets are very welcome with the ferry operator TT-Line and can enjoy a relaxed crossing on board the ferries from Travemünde to Trelleborg. Unlike some other ferry companies, TT-Line does not put dogs into uncomfortable transport boxes - instead they enjoy plenty of freedom to move and can even share the cabin with you.
The crossing from Travemünde to Trelleborg takes about 7-9 hours - enough time for plenty of walks on the outer decks and relaxed breaks in the comfortable pet cabin. All TT-Line ferries have dog toilets, so even longer crossings are no problem.
⚠️ Important: declare when booking!
Be sure to declare your dog when booking. A pet cabin is required for overnight crossings. During the crossing dogs may not stay in the vehicle on the car deck.
🛏️ TT-Line pet cabins
For the crossing with a dog, TT-Line offers special pet cabins. These cabins have an easy-clean floor and are ideally suited to the needs of travellers with four-legged friends. A maximum of two dogs is allowed per cabin.

💡 Tip: book early!
Pet cabins are limited and sell out quickly in high season. So book as early as possible to secure your preferred cabin. If all pet cabins are taken, regular cabins can also be assigned - in that case an additional cleaning fee of €16 applies.
📋 Rules for dogs on board
To keep the crossing pleasant for all passengers, a few rules for dogs apply on the TT-Line ferries. Please observe these notes for a smooth trip.
Dogs may be taken onto the passenger decks (indoor and outdoor). Walks in the fresh sea air are expressly encouraged!
All TT-Line ferries have dog toilets on the rear outer decks. Please use these areas.
Dogs may not stay in the vehicle on the car deck - neither on day nor overnight crossings. They must come up to the passenger decks.
Dogs have no access to restaurants, bars, cafeterias, shops and the sauna. In all other areas they are welcome.
🦮 Lead required on board
A lead is required on board all TT-Line ferries. Please always keep your dog on a short lead. That way all passengers feel comfortable and your dog stays safe.
🇸🇪 Entry requirements for dogs to Sweden 2026
Since 2012 Sweden's entry requirements for pets have been considerably simplified. The blood tests and special worming treatments once required are no longer needed - only the EU standard rules for pets apply.

Microchip for identification
Your dog must be identified with a microchip. The chip number is recorded in the EU pet passport. For dogs tattooed before 3 July 2011, the tattoo counts as an alternative.

Valid rabies vaccination
The rabies vaccination is mandatory and must have been given at least 21 days before entry. For booster vaccinations within the validity period the waiting time is waived. Puppies can enter at the earliest at 15 weeks (vaccination from 12 weeks + 21 days).

EU pet passport
The blue EU pet passport contains all key information about your dog: microchip number, vaccinations, owner details. It is issued by your vet and is valid for life (as long as vaccinations are kept up to date).

Declaration to Swedish customs
Your dog must be declared to Swedish customs (Tullverket). You can do this online in advance or on arrival at the customs desk. Declaring online saves time and lets you use the green exit.
⚠️ Note the minimum age
Your dog must be at least 3 months old to enter Sweden. Younger puppies cannot enter, as they cannot yet be vaccinated against rabies.

🌲 Dog rules in Sweden
Some rules for handling dogs in Sweden differ from those in Germany. Familiarise yourself with local customs before your holiday.
🦮 Lead required in nature
From 1 March to 20 August a lead is compulsory on forest and field paths in Sweden, to protect wildlife and their young. Outside this period it is also common in Sweden to keep dogs on a lead out in nature.
Sweden is considered a very dog-friendly country. Many holiday homes, campsites and hotels welcome four-legged guests.
Dogs are allowed on many Swedish beaches. Watch for signs - some beaches have special no-dog zones.
💡 Pick up dog waste
In Sweden it is a matter of course to pick up dog waste and dispose of it properly. Bring enough waste bags - many towns also have public dispensers.

TT-Line ships with pet cabins also run on the Rostock–Trelleborg route - ideal if you travel from eastern Germany. At about 6 hours the crossing is even slightly shorter.
